Senior Spotlight ~ Hannah Foss

Since our graduating seniors didn’t get a chance to be recognized at our Annual Ice Show, MCFSC wants to take a moment to recognize the skaters that have spent the better part of their lives on the ice. This year we have two seniors. We asked both seniors to write a biography on themselves. The first we will honor is Hannah Foss. The Magic City Figure Skating Club could not be prouder of Hannah. She has been a long time Learn to Skate coach with the club and an amazing role model for our younger skaters. MCFSC wishes her the best as she enters a new chapter.

Skating has been a big part of my life since I started skating. When I was 6 years old, I joined basic skills, and I immediately fell in love. From my first year starting skating I have always loved being a part of the annual ice show. I enjoy being in the spotlight, and getting to wear all the different dresses and costumes. As I got older I was part of the synchro team which taught me to work together as a team. For a few years I got to explore my creative side on the theatre on ice team. With this team I was able to travel to Alabama to compete at the National  Theater on Ice Competition. Along with the teams, I also continued to work hard on my individual skating. I have earned a Gold Medal in Moves in The Field and Ice Dance. I have always loved to dance and even though I have earned my gold medal in dance it has not stopped me from doing more ice dance. I recently passed my first international dance, the Silver Samba, and plan to work on others. I am currently working on my novice free skate and plan to keep skating after I graduate to try and attain my senior free skate Gold medal. I have participated in many competitions, including the 2018 midwestern regional competition, where I placed third place in the first round and ended with fourth place in the finals. I have enjoyed my years in skating. There have been smiles and there have been tears! But skating has taught me dedication and to get back up when you fall down. I learned to enjoy the wins and learn from the losses. My favorite part of skating was being able to meet some of my best friends and making endless memories. Some of my favorite memories are the ones during the many ice shows I have been a part of. From the laughs and times in the locker room between numbers, the halloween shows, theme weeks that we do every year the week of the show, and all the times that I was too dysfunctional to learn even the simplest choreography! One of the best memories I've had in skating was the Tony Awards show. Taylor and I were in so many numbers, we had to change in the players box as quickly as possible to be out in time for the next number.. STRESSFUL. I have had the opportunity to work with so many amazing coaches who have all taught me some very valuable lessons. They have continued to support and motivate me throughout my years in skating. I have learned a lot from them, and the support they give has always helped me to work as hard as I can and push past the mental blocks and rutts. I would not have gotten to where I am today in skating without their love and support. Not only my coaches support, but my parents as well. They have been there for me through the tuff competitions, hard falls on the ice, and the hard times through skating when I would come home upset because I couldn't land jumps I knew I could do. They continue to support me in everything I do, and I am beyond thankful for them. I'm so thankful for all of the lessons skating has taught me the last 12 years, and the memories and that will stick with me for years to come.

At present, I am missing skating very much, due to the COVID-19 pandemic that we are all going through right now! I am spending my days doing school work, talking to my friends on the phone, and doing some off ice training, to keep up with my skating. I'm hoping I get to go back to school, and be able to experience all the “lasts” of high school, such as prom, spring fling, senior banquet, the last day of school, and walking across the stage during the graduation ceremony. I also hope to get back on the ice as soon as possible, and make some great memories this summer with my friends. I am going to continue skating, and work towards achieving my senior freeskate over the next few years. In the fall, I plan to attend Minot State University, majoring in Biology, and pursue my degree in medicine.
